Blog week 45

This week was awesome!!!!!

I finished all the internal mounting hardware. I bent and smithed 1/16″ sheet metal to hold the PCBs. I also designed and had manufactured the front aluminium compliment mechanism to mount the front camera. I also laser cut a piece of acrylic to mount the custom boards for esc control and power distribution.

I realized that it was going to be better to make a fully adjustable universal system than to try and design where exactly each board needs to go and then print it.

I cleaned and installed the front end cap glands. I found the grease in the fire cabinet. I realized that we will have to re-lap the end cap when we do depth testing because there is a scratch traversing the o-ring line. It is fine for pool and pond testing though.

Miles and I deep cleaned the ROV cart. Somehow the black plastic was brown with rust. We took everything off and scraped the rust off. Then we washed the cart and improved the cable management by drilling holes into the cart and adding zip ties. We also hose-clamped the power supply onto the inside of one of the cart legs. Then I bolted the power strip to the outside of the cart.

I crimped the Ethernet for the ROV’s interior FIRST TRY!!!!!!!! (took me 2 hours last time I tried)

Then we installed the electronics and everything broke. but it was all fine when we re-did the cable management. but it wasn’t fine because the main Anderson Power Pole was loose, so we replaced it with another connector.

The PI didn’t like power from the power input because it didn’t trust it. So Miles failed to fix the code on the PI and we eventually just spliced a USB C cable because it trusts that.

We then got a dumpster from facilities (it was gross). We cleaned it and I used flex paste to seal the holes in the bottom of the dumpster. We then filled the dumpster and syphoned water from the barrel into it. We then ran a test and BOB works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
